Energy dep’t proposes bill to manage fuel pipelines

THE DEPARTMENT of Energy (DoE) is planning to forward a pipeline
management bill which will help prevent a repeat of the Batangas-
Manila fuel pipeline incident, an official said in an interview.
"We’re looking at possibly forwarding a pipeline management bill which
will mandate the DoE to be in charge of a committee that monitors
pipelines in the country," said Energy Undersecretary Jose M. Layug,
Jr. to reporters.

The gas pipeline operated by First Philippine Industrial Corp., which
provides 60% of Metro Manila’s fuel supply, was ordered shut by the
Makati City government last Oct. 28. -- ENJD
